Notes
On some pump designs the distance from the face of the stuffing box to the bearing housing is very short. The L1 dimension requires special attention therefore.
The distance D1 to the SB diameter should be no less than approx. 1 mm
(0.039") in radius if at all possible.
Versions with larger packing cross-sections and/or more packing rings are available as special designs. Double cartridge seals incorporating this safety feature are also available.
Hard chrome plating of the sleeve is possible for additional protection against wear.

Convincing Arguments!

No mechanical seal lasts for ever. Even double seals are not strictly "safe" given that the two seals are installed at the same time and have the same expected lifespan. No manufacturer guarantees that the second seal will hold good after the first one has failed.

Even the "disaster bushings" specified by the oil industry (API) are unable to rule out leakage when a seal fails.

DEPAC safety seals are designed to guarantee a high level of process safety by controlling the leakage from a failed seal. The emergency seal is adjusted to an acceptable leakage rate and can stay in operation until the next scheduled plant stoppage. In extreme conditions requiring a double mechanical seal it is possible to upgrade the double seal with an additional safety seal.

The higher price of a DEPAC safety  seal stands in no relation to the expense of lost production!
